Common Questions
Everything you need to know about Rome.
We've built Rome to be the most private way to meet people in the real world. Here's how it all works.
Why Bluetooth instead of GPS?
GPS tracking is invasive and battery-intensive. By using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), Rome can detect when you're physically near someone without ever knowing your actual coordinates. This means your daily routine, home address, and movement patterns are never recorded or stored on our servers.
How does matching work?
When two Rome users are within range (usually 10-20 meters), their phones exchange anonymous, rotating identifiers. If you both later "like" each other in the app, a match is created. The app shows you people you've actually crossed paths with in real life.
Is my data safe?
Yes. We use rotating identifiers that change every 15 minutes, making it impossible for someone to "track" your device over time. We don't sell your data to third parties, and we don't use tracking cookies or third-party analytics in the app.
Can I delete my account?
Absolutely. You can delete your account at any time directly from the Settings menu in the app. Deleting your account immediately removes your profile, photos, matches, and all historical interaction data from our active databases.
Does the app work in the background?
Yes, Rome is designed to work passively in your pocket. As long as Bluetooth is enabled, the app will continue to "see" other users around you so you can check your matches later when it's convenient.
